I’M FEELING ALL THE FEELS TODAY!

One Door at a Time

I’ve just finished editing my debut novel, His Wife, and I can’t wait to share it with the world! But I will wait a little longer, because I’m not publishing it until January 18. My cover reveal is December 18, and there will be lots of teasers in between those two dates.

I’ve learned a lot about myself in the process of writing my book. I made a list of these discoveries, so that I can refer back to my list when I start writing my second book.

  1. Adverbs are a fungus and will spread SWIFTLY and EARNESTLY if you don’t stomp ‘em out early.
  2. Don’t tell. Show. Seems kind of unfair, because I was the Show ‘n Tell champ of my first grade class. Telling is fun! But my beta reader is a task master, and she said don’t forget the show. Noted.
  3. When I started writing His Wife, I was uncomfortable writing dialogue. By the time I finished writing the book, I was in love with dialogue. So I had to go back to the start, and add dialogue. See #2.
  4. Website design is hard. Lots of tears were shed in designing my website, and it’s still the most basic site ever. (I don’t know what that box to the right is doing there. I feel like it’s staring at me accusingly when I open my page. Is that another damn adverb? Let me get my stomping boots.)
  5. Marketing a book is like walking a tightrope in high winds while wearing heels. Oh, and you are naked, too. And someone is shooting at you. I SWEAR THIS IS THE TRUTH.

This journey to publishing has been difficult, but I haven’t stopped writing. I won’t stop writing because I love it so much. I am determined to make this work, and I’m not going to stop until I’m satisfied.  Milton Berle said, “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”

I’m building ALL the doors.

Dreams

I’m starting to dream about publishing. I’d rather dream of writing or a guy with great abs. Either way, I’m not particular.
